Police are concerned for the wellbeing of an overdue British tourist, who has gone missing while walking the Te Araroa Trail between Nelson Lakes and Boyle River.

Andy Wyatt, who is believed to be about 24 years old, was last seen at Blue Lake in Nelson Lakes National Park on about December 13.

Mr Wyatt intended to tramp to Boyle settlement in the Lewis Pass, where he was due to uplift a food package on the December 16.

Another tramper spoke with him at the Blue Lake hut, but he has not arrived at Boyle settlement as planned.

Senior Constable Phil Simmonds says he may have left the area without contacting the Boyle Education Centre, where the food parcel was delivered.

Police and search and rescue teams are checking huts and tracks on the trail today.

Anyone with any further information is asked to contact Christchurch Police on 363 7400.
