You're never too young to love a V8
Four-year-old Josiah Barkman rallied an army of junior stockcar fans when driver Shane Harwood brought his NAC Insurance-Bluebridge and ITM-backed superstock to Henley Kindergarten in Richmond.
Teacher Kath McCauley said Josiah spoke of nothing but stockcars and Mr Harwood at kindergarten, so she was happy to see him sharing his passion with the rest of the children yesterday.
"He's just totally made 40 new stockcar fans."
"It's an obsession," Josiah's mother, Teila Simpson, said. "He's up first thing every morning playing stockcars around the house."
Mr Harwood is a family friend whom Ms Simpson knew from her school days.
Shane said Josiah was not the only fan under five he knew, saying he especially enjoyed the attention when they came to cheer him on at the track.
"You can see them hanging off the fence, they love it . . . It's pretty cool to see them into it at such a young age."
Josiah said he liked the stockcars because they went "really quick".
Asked how much he wanted to be a driver when he grew up, he threw out both arms as far as they would go.
