A helicopter crew used night vision goggles to rescue a man in a remote area of the North Island's central plateau this morning.
About midnight the Palmerston North rescue helicopter was called to Rotokuru Reserve at Tangiwai, near Ohakune, where a Hawke's Bay man aged in his 60s had suffered a medical emergency, police said.
Police and fire crews on the ground helped get the man onto the helicopter, where he was treated by a paramedic.
He was flown to Palmerston North Hospital.
