Woman injured after wind topples tree
The Nelson Marlborugh Rescue Helicopter was sent to Motueka this afternoon to pick up a 70-year-old woman who was seriously injured after she was struck by a falling tree.
It is believed the tree blew over in the wind and struck her from behind with no warning while she was working in a paddock.
The woman was assessed and treated at the scene by St John Ambulance from Motueka and the helicopters onboard intensive care paramedic.
She suffered serious injuries to her leg, chest and back and was then flown in a serious but stable condition to Nelson Hospital for more treatment.
