Nelson residents were shaken and stirred after a 6.2-magnitude earthquake hit off the coast of the lower North Island yesterday afternoon.
GeoNet reported the earthquake hit at 3.52pm. It was centred 36km deep and was 15km east of Ekatahuna near Wellington.
There have been no reports of damage in the Nelson region.
People took to social media to immediately share their experiences of the quake, with more than 100 comments received on the Nelson Mail Facebook page in less than 10 minutes after the tremors were felt.
