A Nelson man has been remanded in custody charged with assaulting a woman and child following a violent incident in Atawhai.
Kyle McArtney appeared in Nelson District Court yesterday charged with unlawful sexual connection, wounding with intent to injure, assaulting a child and wilful damage.
The woman suffered a stab wound in the February 8 incident. She was treated at Nelson Hospital and discharged.
In court, McArtney was remanded in custody until February 19.
Meanwhile, a 30-year-old man has been remanded in custody to appear in the Nelson District Court on February 21 charged with wounding with intent to do grievous bodily harm.
The charge followed a stabbing on the fishing boat Pacific Explorer at Port Nelson on Friday.
An Indonesian fisherman had surgery on Friday and is now in a stable condition in Nelson Hospital.
