NZ Post nearly got a perfect score in a mail delivery survey in the Nelson region this week.
After complaints from Nelson residents that local letters were taking a week to be delivered, the Nelson Mail carried out a sample check.
Eleven letters were posted to addresses in the region on Monday and all were delivered by Wednesday. Another letter posted in Golden Bay on Tuesday had not arrived by this morning.
NZ Post has a delivery target of up to three working days for standard post.
The test included letters posted in Nelson for delivery to other Nelson addresses, from the NZ Post shop in Hardy St as well as from a street postbox. Letters were also posted to and from Richmond, Motueka and Golden Bay addresses.
A NZ Post spokesperson said: "We make every effort to deliver mail on time and our staff are working hard to ensure we meet our service standards."
Standard letters posted in Nelson are now sent to Christchurch for processing then back again, because NZ Post closed that processing in Nelson last December.
Fastpost letters continue to be processed in Nelson, costing $1.40 for next-day delivery across town.
Standard post now costs 70c but will be increased to 80c from July 1.
