A search for a missing pet turned into a catastrophe for a Kaiteriteri woman.
She fell down a 5-metre bank, injuring herself and had to be airlifted to hospital.
The 54-year-old woman was believed to have been looking for her cat when she fell, a Nelson Marlborough Rescue Helicopter spokesman said.
St John Ambulance shift manager Mike Casey said the woman suffered "quite significant" hip and pelvic injuries after falling down the bank.
She was assessed and treated at the scene before being flown to Nelson Hospital, and today was in a comfortable condition.
It is not known if her cat had been found.
