The Nelson City Council is asking people to stay off the city's recreational tracks after the wild Easter weather, until they have been assessed for danger.
Communications manager Angela Ricker said council contractors were still surveying tracks on landscape and conservation reserves including Dun Mountain, the Involution Trail, and the Centre of New Zealand.
"We know there are trees down and tracks are damaged, but until the extent is known and repairs made, we are asking people to stay away for their own safety," she said.
Contractors who were aerial spraying yesterday told the council that the damage to many of the reserves looked extensive. Ricker said people should leave the clean-up to council contractors.
