A 62-year-old Motueka man was in intensive care at Nelson Hospital this morning, after suffering multiple injuries in a motorbike accident near St Arnaud yesterday.
The man crashed on State Highway 6 near St Arnaud about 11.30am.
He was travelling with another motorbiker, who found him and his bike up a bank on the side of the road.
The injured man was taken to Nelson Hospital by the Nelson Marlborough Rescue Helicopter after being treated by a St John paramedic at the scene.
St John team manager Gary Tobin said he had serious chest, shoulder and arm injuries.
"He sort of impacted on his left side. We think he has probably been knocked out as well,'' he said.
Nelson Hospital spokeswoman Katherine Rock said he was in a serious condition this morning.
