Editorial: Outbreak at Tukurua

OPINION: Regardless of where any fault might lie, the outbreak of suspected norovirus could hardly have come at a worse time for the Golden Bay Holiday Park at Tukurua – or for the hundreds of guests.
With some 450 campers in a comparatively confined space and sharing cooking, toilet and other facilities, conditions were near perfect for this nastily contagious bug to spread.
Health officials have praised the camp operators for their response. That is reassuring.
However, some affected guests might well have questions regarding the time it took the officials to go public on the outbreak and close the camp.

I find the managers of this park rather irresponsible and have taken the stance of profits over the wlefare of travelling families. This area should have been completely quarantined off from incoming and outgoing campers. How else are you going to stop this terrible problem. The authorities seem to be sitting on their hands and uncapable of enforcing a health risk to all.If common sense prevails and this "headache" is treated sensibly, low income workers can once more have faith in enjoying their once a year retreat, whilst lapping up the fruits of "Gods Country"--New Zealand. Thanking you
