Rose Blois admits she spends a fair amount of time lying on her back in the garden, waiting to capture the right photograph.
It's her attention to detail – displayed in this photo (right) of dandelion seed heads blowing away – that has earned Ms Blois the title of winner of this month's Nelson Mail garden photo competition.
It's her second win in the competition, although her photos have impressed the judges many more times; she's had 26 shots published as finalist photos.
Ms Blois says she likes form and light and also strives to capture movement, which is difficult, as sometimes the subject ends up blurry or completely out of the frame. Paying attention to the background is also important, says Ms Blois, who can spend hours trying to capture a shot she's happy with.
She says she enjoys gardening, but often gets distracted. "I go out to garden and I end up going inside and grabbing my camera."
Ms Blois wins a $100 Hanafins Camera and Video processing voucher.
- Entries for this month's competition must be in by Tuesday, November 24. Send digital photos to garden@nelsonmail.co.nz.
