The Freedom Week Film Festival, promoting Amnesty International, is under way at the Independent Theatre in Nelson, opening last Sunday with a pot-luck dinner and the screening of the first movies.
Photographer Patrick Hamilton went to the opening.
The festival, with a lineup of documentaries with themes of freedom and civilisation, finishes Friday.
