Members of the Tahunanui-based Kimura Shukokai Karate club had success at the Karate New Zealand national championships in Wellington at the weekend.

Ashleigh Robinson won silver in the kata (non-combat movement) under-16 secondary schools competition, and bronze in the development under-16 category.

Peter Thomson won two bronze medals in the 10-11 age group for kata and kumite (sparring), and his brother Jamie won a silver in the 8-9 age group for kata.

All three also won medals at the Canterbury-Westland championships in Christchurch a couple of weeks ago.

Members of Kimura Shukokai will head to Australia next month to train with some chief instructors.
