A half-century by Tom Ingham helped to steer Waimea College to a six-wicket win over WTTU in their Nelson one-day club cricket clash at Jubilee Park on Saturday.

Chasing 201 for victory, Waimea College reached 204 for 4 off 48 overs, with Ingham opening the innings to contribute 74 runs. Brad Smith (29) and an unbeaten 39 from Lee Wright also helped the cause in a measured run chase as Sprig and Fern WTTU unsuccessfully used nine bowlers in their attempt to derail the students' innings.

Ingham hit nine fours, with WTTU's bowlers also contributing 27 wides to significantly help College's cause.

Opening batsman Clinton Harvey had top-scored in WTTU's innings with 63, including four fours and two sixes. But with Cade Armstrong (39 not out) and Hayden Simpson (28) the only other batsmen to reach double figures, WTTU's innings never gained any traction as the home team reached 200 for 9 off their 50 overs.

Connor Neynens took 4-47 as College's leading wicket-taker, although Tom Bloomberg finished with 2-26 off 10 economical overs.

At Brightwater, David Leonard returned for his first club outing of the summer, but despite contributing 75 runs to Taylors Contracting Wanderers' total of 173, Wakatu were always a safe bet to secure the win, eventually getting home with three wickets to spare off just 34 overs.

Leonard made the only significant contribution to Wanderers' innings, although a late 29-run offering from Matt Cross, including three sixes, at No10 helped to prolong the home team's otherwise inadequate batting effort.

Jason Macquet (3-20), offspinner Luke Toynbee (2-39) and Bryce Goodall (2-30) were Wakatu's leading wicket-takers.

Toynbee also made a vital contribution with the bat, hitting an unbeaten 44 runs off 31 balls to help steer his team home at 175 for 7. He hit his second six of the innings off Hayden Ingham to secure the win in the 34th over after Wakatu's top order had struggled to consolidate.

Simon McGowan's anchoring 38-run effort off 89 balls and 26 off 28 from Mark Allsopp at No6 helped to keep Wakatu on track before Toynbee's emphatic offering ultimately sealed the issue.

Motueka had Stoke-Nayland's measure once again, easing to a three-wicket victory at Memorial Park.

It was Motueka's second one-day win over Stoke-Nayland in four weeks, with Stoke-Nayland's total of 207 never enough to provide their bowlers with any sort of defence. They made a decent enough attempt, capturing seven wickets before the winning runs were scored off the first ball of the 46th over.

Opener Paul Capstick had given Stoke-Nayland a solid enough start, top-scoring with 76, including four fours and a six, while joining Jacob Beleski (21) in a 61-run opening stand. But the loss of Mitchell Drummond for a duck and the key run outs of Ben Homan (26) and Alex Coles (44), after they'd made respectable starts, left Stoke-Nayland's tail with too much to do.

Carlot Lazaro featured in Motueka's bowling attack, taking 4-29 off 9.1 economical overs, before Stoke-Nayland were eventually all out off the first ball of the 49th over.

Motueka's openers Johnny Evans (30) and Gary Agnew (32) provided the ideal launching pad for John Ogilvie to eventually help steer the home team towards their victory.

Ogilvie's 66-run innings featured nine fours and three sixes, with Lazaro also completing a fine all-round performance with 39 decisive runs from No6.

Ben Gully, Homan and Coles each finished with two wickets, Coles capturing both of his within four deliveries, but the real damage had already been done, with Motueka's late loss of wickets never enough to cause any major distress.
