The Nelson Bowls Centre men's and women's veteran champion-of-champions singles were played during the week.
The men's event played at Richmond saw Bob Foster (Motueka) a narrow winner over Tom Closey (Wakefield) 21-20, Foster winning when he dislodged Closey's shot bowl with his last bowl.
To reach the final Foster beat Stu Scott (United) 21-9 and won the semifinal by default when Mario Boffa retired with an injured back.
Closey's run was more demanding, beating Alan Ashby 21-7, Murray Canning (Tahuna) 21-14 and Don Sixtus (Mapua) in the semifinal, 21-10.
The women's final was played at Stoke between Kaye Tomlinson (Richmond) and Nancye Kotua (Nelson). The match saw Tomlinson in command most of the way finally winning 21-13.
To reach the final Tomlinson beat Nora Harvey (United) 21-11 and Moana Cross (Motueka) 21-16 in the semifinal, while Kotua had a first-round win over Brenda Preece (Maitai) 21-16 and a semifinal win over Helen Geange (Tahuna) 21-6.
