Masters snap up medals

Athletics Nelson runners may have had a problem with the Tahiti Airport metal detector after the Oceania Masters Athletics Championships earlier this month.
Tim Cross, Derek Shaw and Ian Morrison had 14 medals stowed in their bags following their seven days of competition.
Cross won gold in the 3000m steeplechase in the 50-54 age group. He also won silver medals in the 5000m and 8km cross-country, and bronze medals in the half marathon and 4x100m relay.
Shaw won silver medals in the 55-59 400m and 1500m and bronze medals in the 800m, 3000m steeplechase, 5000m, 8km cross-country, and half marathon team.
Morrison won gold in the 60-64 8km cross-country and silver in the 2km cross-country.
More than 300 athletes from New Zealand, Australia and throughout Oceania competed in the event.
