Stow revels in wet trails

The final round of the Nelson Mountainbike Club season was held on Tuckers Trails in the Maitai Valley on Sunday.
Some heavy rain over the preceeding days frightened off all but the more experienced riders. Despite being wet, the trails were still fully ridable with only a washed-out bridge giving competitors an added challenge of a creek crossing.
Jake Stow led the field home, completing his three laps in 1hr 37min, followed by Nick Bygate who, had he not suffered a flat tyre, may well have challenged Stow for line honours.
Henery Jaine was competitive overall and easily won the under-15 section, completing a third additional lap just for fun.
Brenda Clapp took the women's title on her single speed which proved perfect for the conditions. Liz Eskrick came home in an impressive second place time, also winning in the veteran 4 class. Other class winners were Robert Kay (veteran men 3), Alan Eskrick (veteran men 4), Matt Bruce (under-19 men) and Nick Bygate (under-17 men).
