The Nelson development primary schools cricket team lost to the Canterbury junior cricket association's Astle side in their tournament in Rangiora on Thursday.
For the first time during the week, Nelson bowled first, but they took only five wickets, with the Astle side scoring a respectable 223 for 5.
Flynn Eathorne continued his good bowling form in taking 3-42, while George Franklyn got 1-8. Matt Leonard also bowled well with 0-18.
Unfortunately for Nelson, they lost wickets too early in their chase and failed to build partnerships, and could only total 136. Nic Clark scored 21 and Kyle Clark contributed well with 30.
Nelson are expected to finish seventh or eighth, having previously been sixth.
This is the first time Nelson have entered the tournament, and the players have gained valuable experience.
