The inaugural Tasman secondary schools motocross championships are to be held at Eighty-eight Valley, Wakefield, on Sunday.
There are more than 70 entries from schools across the top of the south for the event at the MotoXEvents Motocross Park, with 11 school teams entered.
Each team consists of three riders from the same school. There will also be individual placings in each class.
The trophy has been inscribed and Sunday's event will decide which school will receive the Teams Trophy for the first year.
"It is great that we have motocross on the school sport event calendar this year, as it gives riders a chance to represent their school in their sport and aim to take home the impressive trophy for the top team," secondary schools regional sports director Shanine Hermsen said.
Teams will go on to represent the region at the South Island secondary schools motocross championships on Saturday, August 18, in Timaru.
The event has been organised by the Nelson Motorcycle Club in conjunction with MotoXevents and the Tasman Secondary Schools Sports Council.
Racing begins at 10am and entry is free. Spectators are welcome.
