Some of Nelson's most promising young cyclists returned from the Cuddon Tour in Blenheim last week after two days of competition.
The intermediate students took part in a race that attracts some of the top college age talent in the country. Wet weather greeted competitors but the event still went ahead with the time trial followed by the criterium on the first day while the king of the mountain (KOM) hill climb and the traditional road race featured on day two.
Waimea Intermediate came away with some top results. The hard-working Bailey Ford won all four of his events and took all three jerseys on offer in the under-13 boys' section. Shaane Fulton was the overall winner of the under-13 girls' tour as well as the sprint ace and second in the KOM, while team-mate Brittany Kerr was second in the tour and sprint ace and won the KOM. Nathan Black also from Waimea Intermediate was 14th in the under-15 boys' time trial.
Niamh Fisher Black from Nelson Intermediate was third in all her events in the girls' under-13 age group and Ruby Jones and Fiona Bonnett from St Joseph's were fourth and fifth respectively in the same age group.
