The Tasman under-15 boys and girls teams have brought home titles from the South Island age group squash championships in Dunedin.
The boys team of Callum Seymour, Quinn Udy and Felix Murray and the girls team of Kiriana Andrew, Amelia Wadsworth and Libby Craighead played flawlessly, winning each of their respective ties 3-0 to claim the South Island champion titles.
Seeded second, the Tasman girls contested a five-team round robin against Otago, Southland, Canterbury A and Canterbury B. Tasman demolished Otago and Southland without dropping a game although Canterbury A proved more testing, despite Tasman's 3-0 win.
There were some tense moments in the final against top seed Canterbury B. Wadsworth had a battle against Canterbury's Shaylee Harris, the game scores see-sawing at two games each, taking them to a deciding fifth. Again the girls battled point for point, but it was Wadsworth's determination and attacking shots that won her the game and match.
Tasman's No 1 player, Andrew, outplayed Canterbury's No 1, Ruby Turnbull and showed complete control with accurate lobs and tight winning drops, leaving Turnbull with no answers.
Craighead made short work of Canterbury's Fiona Fox in three easy sets, Craighead's experience, tight drives and cross drops proving too good for the Cantabrian.
The Tasman boys were seeded No 1 and contested an eight-team draw with two pools of four.
They played Canterbury B, Midlands (Ashburton) and Otago B in pool play which they completely dominated, winning every tie 3-0 without dropping a game.
They met second seeds, Otago A, in the final, with Udy playing James Baker. The first two games were even, with Udy taking the first and Baker the second. Udy was quick to respond in the third and fourth sets, changing his game plan, mixing up his shots and running Baker around on his way to a 3-1 win.
Tasman's No 1 player Callum Seymour met Otago's No 1, Josh Askin, with Seymour's devastating dropshots, power cross courts and speed around the court too much for Askin in a 3-0 win.
In the third match, Murray also beat Jacob Brown 3-0, with Murray's accurate volley drops and well-executed drives consistently leaving Brown scrambling.
