A small club has achieved big results, winning nine medals from 12 starts in the level four grade at the 2012 the Gymsports National Championships, held in Dunedin.
The Nelson Rhythmic Gymnasts club travelled to Edgar Centre earlier this month to compete in both level four and level six competitions.
In level four, gymnast Amy Vella Miles placed first overall and won several individual apparatus medals, including first place in freehand and hoop.
Miles has been in unbeatable form all year, from the qualifying competitions around New Zealand to taking top spot at the national event.
Gracie Kroos placed second overall and won individual apparatus medals, coming third in hoop, second in clubs and third in freehand. Renee Macrae won an individual medal for 1st in clubs and placed 6th overall. Aimee Robinson won an individual medal for second in freehand and placed 9th overall. Zoe Jensen placed fifth overall and Grace Dennis 11th overall.
Competing in level six, Beth Strickland won the individual medal for third in clubs.
Due to their outstanding performances the girls from the Nelson Rhythmic Gymnasts club have reached proficiency at their respective levels and received a relevant proficiency pin.
Coach Yvonne Bradley received a medal based on the proficiency of the gymnasts.
