Are you F.i.T for Families in Touch?

22:47, Nov 11 2012
BEST FOOT FORWARD: Hulk It Up are having fun in the Nelson Mail Mixed Grade 3 division on Tuesdays.

Now’s the time to start planning your team for our popular Families in Touch or F.i.T module which starts on Tuesday January 15, 2013. Start organising now and get it out of the way before the holidays.

It’s fun for the entire family, young and old; great for those who’ve not experienced the enjoyment of playing in the same team as their parents or children, and against teams comprising other parents and children.

Most teams comprise  two or three families, averaging 10 players. Ages range from four to 50 plus and most teams are mixed gender.

Although this is not a requirement or rule, it is within the spirit of this grade to play this way and have loads of fun.

A high percentage of the teams only field two adults at any given time, allowing more game time for the children.

It is a carefree type of competition, but it’s also important to emphasise the major part that parents play as role models, especially teaching young and inexperienced players the basics of Touch in a less stressful situation.

What are you waiting for? Get your team registered now. Registration can be emailed through to

The Draw
You will find the draw right here, every week on the Touch Page in the Sports section of the Nelson Mail.

Nelson Module and Junior Module cancellation notices will be posted on Facebook and on the local radio stations. Radio announcements will be after 2pm for the Nelson module and after 2pm for the Junior module. A reminder, any decisions to cancel any senior module nights will not be made until after 2pm. Please respect this and do not contact the module coordinator before that time.

We have started the season with a good base of experienced and new referees and it is great to see a lot more younger refs coming through and showing an interest in this vital part of the game. If you are also interested in a bit of whistle blowing, full support and training is provided.
