Nelson Bays Tennis has another notable prospect coming through the junior ranks with Kvido Tayerle making the final of the Canterbury Junior Christmas Classic.
Seeded third going into the competition, Tayerle had two strong wins in the early rounds, played at the Edgeware Tennis Club and Spreydon Tennis Club last week.
In the semifinal Tayerle drew the tournament second seed, Cantabrian Nichica Morgan. The Nelson junior broke serve for a 6-3 victory.
This set up a final showdown against Canterbury's Diego Quispe-King who Tayerle has met in previous tournaments. Tayerle lost the match to Quispe-King 6-0, though the scoreline did not reflect how close the match was.
Tayerle had a decent build-up to the tournament, playing and winning the 8-years-and-under Nelson Bays Grasshoppers Invitational Tournament in November.
Having competed in a number of tournaments over the past year, Tayerle had gained more confidence in his match play and this showed at the Canterbury tournament.
