Giants and Saints in Blenheim clash

00:00, Feb 14 2013

Following a successful trip to Blenheim in 2011, the Fico Finance Nelson Giants and the Exodus Wellington Saints will return to the hardwood floor of Marlborough Lines Stadium in April, when they will go head to head in an NBL pre-season clash.

As with the 2011 match, the Giants are making the trip across the Whangamoas thanks to Marlborough company Hunter's Wines, one of the team's major sponsors.

Around 800 spectators turned up to watch the Saints overcome the Giants by 15 points in an entertaining spectacle last time. But with more time to organise and promote this year's game, the Marlborough Basketball Association is hopeful of a sellout and packing 1200 people around centre court on Saturday, April 13.

Fans can expect another high-quality display from some of the country's top players.

Runners-up last year, Wellington were NBL champions in 2010 and 2011, while the Giants will be keen to hit the ground running this year after finishing sixth in 2012 and missing out on the final four.

Tickets to the match, which is scheduled for a 3pm start, will cost just $10 for adults and $5 for children.

A curtain-raiser match is also planned, with a game between a Marlborough men's side and a Nelson men's team the likely fixture.
