Russ shines with team-high 21 points at SunBelt Championships

Former Athletics Nelson runner Matt Russ had one of the finest meetings of his career at the SunBelt Conference Indoor Track and Field Championships in Jonesboro, Arkansas.

Russ scored a team-high 21 points in leading the University of North Texas men's squad to second place in the team results. Russ won the 3000m in 8min 28.96sec on Monday, and then followed with a third-place finish in the mile (4:15.01), and fourth in the 800m (1:58s).

Two other former Athletics Nelson athletes competed in conference indoor meets during the weekend. Harry Dixon finished sixth in the 5000m at the Mid-American Conference Champion, Eastern Michigan, in Ypsilanti, Michigan.

Craig Lautenslager placed fourth in the 5000m for runner-up University of Texas at Arlington, at the Western Athletics Conference Indoor Meet in Albuquerque, New Mexico.
