A bit of rain didn't deter Katie Thompson from setting a personal best in the triple jump at Friday's Athletics Nelson's Twilight Series Meet at the Saxton Field Athletics Track.
Thompson's 10.76m leap came on her fourth jump after leaps of 10.21m, 10.48m, and 10.47m. She concluded her strong series with leaps of 10.69m and 10.52m.
Thompson started the meet with a victory in the 100m in 13.45sec into a headwind. She also won the 200m in 28.63sec.
The meet also marked the return of Jonas Kale, who won the men's 100m in 11.65 and the 200m in 24.26sec. Chris Brake took out the men's triple jump with 13.55m, and masters runner Tim Cross won a solo 800m in 2min 35.07sec.
Athletics Nelson will host the 78th Mahar Cup Meet next Saturday. The meet starts at 10am with the 3000m and concludes with the 4 x 100m relay at 3.30pm.
