New Zealand have hauled in a total of 11 medals including five golds on the opening day of the world taekwondo championships in Buenos Aire, Argentina.

Golds went to Carolina Dillen in the seniors women's 1st Dan patterns division, Chris Broughton in the senior men's 1st Dan patterns, Jeremy Hannah in the junior males 3rd Dan patterns, Aramai Tahau in the junior mens individual speciality competition and by the junior women in the team pattern division.

Silvers were won by Mark Trotter in the senior men's 4th-6th Dan patterns, Matthew Davey in the senior mens 2nd Dan patterns and Shane Black in the junior mens speciality division.

Phillipa Henry in the junior womens 1st degree patterns, Melissa Timperley in the junior womens specialty and Richie Lavin in the senior males 3rd Dan patterns won bronze medals.
