SUSPENDED: Human billboard Dan Herbison.

Human billboard Dan Herbison spent almost five hours dangling from a fence after deciding the best way to promote his job-search website was simply to hang out.

It was uncomfortable, but he did not crack under the strain. "But the harness . . . was giving me a bit of a wedgie."

He was suspended from a wire fence at the eastern side of Cobham Park, next to one of Wellington's busiest roundabouts.

The sight was almost too much for some motorists. "There were a couple of close calls with nose-to-tail accidents nearly happening," Mr Herbison said.

But there were also plenty of waves and toots. "There was one family that went around the roundabout five times with the kids waving and laughing out the window."

Mr Herbison, a draughtsman, was promoting perkjobs.co.nz, an online job noticeboard where people can find work or workers to do almost anything. "It is like Student Job Search, but targeting the general population."

He has even earned extra cash himself through a couple of weekend jobs found on the site. "I have probably had a couple of hundred different jobs in my time. I'm kind of an odd-job Dan."

When he set up the website in November, he travelled the country doing a free job a day for 30 days. He chased sheep, milked cows, cut hair and featured in a Mercedes advert.

Haha #29 Rob, good one mate, why don't you unwrap yourself from your cotton wool and live a little. Is it hard living such a boring life? Awesome idea "odd jobs Dan", good luck there needs to be more people like you trying to make things happen and keeping NZ unique!

Rob #29 - always has to be someone that takes the boring senior citizen style approach to it. But Dan amazing idea! Advertising Guru. Checked out your website and I believe it will prove popular! Its much easier to use than Student Job Search also.
