A Timaru man is in hospital after he fell off the back of a ute, without his pants on, as it drove through the city.
The Herald understands the 21-year-old was standing when he fell, as the ute turned into King George Place.
Friends who were at the scene of yesterday's incident had covered his lower half with clothing when the ambulance arrived about 3.45pm yesterday.
The unconscious man was then taken to Timaru Hospital.
Constable Brent Rissman, of the Timaru police, said the driver was breath tested but did not test positive.
Mr Rissman said that the victim was one of two people sitting at the back of the ute as it travelled south through the town centre.
Timaru Hospital spokeswoman Arlene Goss said the patient had requested that no information about his condition be released.
