Puppy rescued from teapot

A tiny puppy was freed by four Gisborne firefighters after its head became wedged in a teapot.
The bull-mastiff pup, about 10 weeks old, suffered a small nick to its nose.
A fire truck raced to the scene at about 9.45am yesterday, initially believing a person had become trapped.
Gisborne senior station officer Mike Milne said the crew had struggled to envisage the situation.
"I thought that must be some teapot, but they'd be able to breathe through the spout anyway."
The crew was met by a worried looking couple standing at the gate of their home. They were holding the dog, its head stuck inside the old porcelain teapot.
With a sledgehammer resting against it, Mr Milne tapped the teapot a few times with an engineer's hammer, breaking it apart.
"He was free in a minute and off on his next adventure. He was as happy as anything. When we were leaving I heard the owners saying they'd be calling him Teapot."
Mr Milne said he regularly went out to help animals in danger – from cats trapped in walls to dogs down cliffs. He said cats stuck up trees were "a real pain in the neck".
"Often we're not even needed because they can come down."
The owners of the puppy could not be contacted last night.

I have 2 bull-mastiffs. They are both too unmotivated to walk to a teapot. If they had, however, a tap with a ladle would have cracked it.
I think the first comment sums it up pretty well.
I had no idea it was so common for pups/dogs to get into trouble. Last Saturday my boyfriend and I were walking our 2 dogs at the Newlands Dog Walking park which connects to the Horokiwi quarry (Wellington)via bush tracks, when our adolescent chihuahua disappeared. We searched for 4 hours (unfortunatley our elderly German Shepherd is too blind and "scent deaf" so he couldn't point us in any direction. Eventually a fellow dog walker's pooch sniffed him out. We had seen rabbits on the trail where he was found, so I guess he chased a rabbit through the gorse and fell off a cliff! He landed on one of the few sparsely grown gorse bushes jutting out about 30 - 40 metres down. A friend joined us with his abseiling equipment but there was nothing to secure the line so I volunteered to be lowered down to rescue him. It was 100% successful and 200% stressful! He will never be allowed off his lead on a trail/track again. !
Sheesh, what a load of whingers you lot are. If you're not complaining about this cute little guy and his obviously very caring owners being a "waste of firefighters time", you're complaining about this not being newsworthy. For starters, if you want "news worthy" then stick to the friggen national/world news pages..this article is under Cute Stuff because it is just that..cute! And why you felt the need to tell everyone else that you don't think this is "news" is beyond me..seems like you're the time wasters to me!
On another note - who the hell are most of you to be so judgemental towards this couple who genuinely care so much about their little pup. Like a lot of you (sensible) people have already said, I am sure this call-out would have been a very pleasant one for the fire fighters - they are probably more than happy to help out a little puppy with a teapot on his head than scrape dead bodies off the side of the road! Think about it guys, this is a great story!
Some of you just need to get a grip. I think this is a great story. Who says news has to be all doom and gloom, policital or criminal? Yes, calling the Fire Service may have been a little over the top but obviously they panicked and did what they thought was the most appropriate action at the time.
Anyone who has ever had a puppy should know that they can get themselves in all sorts of predicaments. Puppies are curious by nature, he was probably wondering what was inside the teapot. Cute!
Puppy has got the bull mastif colourings, looks like a bullmastif to me. I have a bullmastif x myself and they are lovely dogs. And I hope the owners continue to provide excellent care for puppy!
the dogs a cross apparently and it wasn't the owner who called, and the person didn't want to try to get the dog out because she was afraid she may hurt her...here is a more concise article from the Gisborne Herald http://www.gisborneherald.co.nz/article/?id=16203
Awww so cute!! Glad to know there are people ready to help, our firefighters do a great job and good on them for showing a professional attitude to what we pretty much all agree was overkill on the owners part. Though you have to admit, its rather gorgeous how this chap phoned the fire dept to rescue his wee puppy from a teapot - and they are probably feeling pretty sheepish.
its Nice to hear this amongst the usual reports of violence and cruelty NZers like to heap upon each other.
Puppy!
#16 #20 I totally agree, im surprised the tittle of the story wasn't "Pittbull gets head stuck after attacking tea pot" haha - Bullmastiffs are great dogs glad the pup's ok
