The tale of a ghost cat just got a whole lot spookier for a Hawera couple.
Ross and Donna Sowerby's story of a ghostly image caught on tape grabbed national media attention last year.
The pair had set up a security camera in the hope of catching a bicycle thief.
Instead, it caught a ghostly image of what looked to some like a big fluffy cat.
The Sowerbys hoped media exposure would lead to answers.
But the paranormal experts fell silent and the couple were left with an unsolved mystery. For months there was no definitive answer, Mrs Sowerby said.
That was until Monday when the Good Morning show on TV One hosted television psychic Sue Nicholson who offered the pair an explanation.
"I wrote to the programme hoping they could help me out," Mrs Sowerby said.
Ms Nicholson said the apparition was that of a ginger cat but added to the mystery by stating the Sowerbys' home housed many more ghosts.
"The best thing is you don't need to feed (this cat)."
She went on to say there was also a man there but it was a friendly ghost with a "lovely energy".
Mrs Sowerby was happy with the explanation but was not thrilled at the prospect of the house turning into a train station of the spiritual kind.
"We have closure now and we can move on."
The story also ran last year on the Stuff website and attracted about 80 comments in the Oddstuff section which offered a different opinion. Many have suggested it's a bug or a dust mite on the lens. But the Sowerbys were not satisfied with these theories.
