Unexpected bite to case of munchies
Relevant offers
Wade Churchward had a fair amount of alcohol in his system when he entered a Carterton service station late on March 22.
He grabbed a packet of chippies, then two packets of M&Ms, and made his way to the counter. The munchies would not wait, so he opened the M&Ms and started eating.
Once at the head of the queue, reality hit. He didn't have any money on him.
But he had an idea. Would the attendant accept his tin containing 12 grams of cannabis and his pipe?
He placed them on the counter.
Churchward never got to find out. The man in the queue behind him was a police officer, and his colleague was outside filling their patrol car. Bummer.
In Masterton District Court yesterday, Churchward, a 28-year-old mechanic, pleaded guilty to possessing cannabis and also to unrelated charges of misusing a telephone and making threatening calls. He was remanded on bail for sentencing on July 3.
