Lottery winner scoops record NZ$315m prize
One lucky person or syndicate in Britain has scooped the entire EuroMillions jackpot of NZ$315 million, the website for the lottery says.
The €185 million prize for the draw, which took place on Tuesday night in Britain (this morning, NZ time), was the biggest EuroMillions jackpot ever and the largest for a single winner, EuroMillions said.
"This is amazing news," a UK National Lottery spokesman told The Sun.
"We are absolutely delighted that a UK ticket holder has scooped the entire €185 million jackpot, which at the current exchange rate is a massive £161 million. We've got the champagne on ice and look forward to welcoming the ticket-holder or holders into the National Lottery millionaires' club."
The winner, if it is a single person, would become the 418th richest person in Britain and almost as rich as the Beckhams.
The Beckhams have a personal fortune of £165 million, The Guardian reported, citing the Sunday Times Rich List.
The winner has yet to come forward.
The EuroMillions jackpot grew so much after a series of rollovers that it was capped at €185 million.
EuroMillions is jointly run by the national lotteries of nine countries - Britain, France, Spain, Ireland, Belgium, Luxembourg, Austria, Switzerland and Portugal.
