A note with the words "thank you" and a smiley face has puzzled police investigating a break-in at a Masterton house.
An unoccupied house in Walton's Ave was discovered to have been broken into on Wednesday afternoon.
Senior Sergeant Warwick Burr said the owner had gone to the house and found a window in the front door had been smashed. Blood on a wall near the broken window indicated the intruder either arrived injured or had got hurt breaking in.
Mr Burr said though police were treating it as a burglary, nothing was taken and the person responsible seemed to appreciate gaining entry.
"There was a note with just the words `thank you' left on a table so it is possible someone was seeking some sort of shelter."
