A bump as good as a push from a blind man
An elderly woman who claimed she was pushed on to a busy Christchurch road was in fact accidentally bowled over by a blind man, police say.
Police today called off the search for the "culprit" of what was thought to be an assault on the 77-year-old.
Constable Alan Roberts, of Sydenham, police said she was knocked over on to Colombo Street in front of traffic, suffering minor injuries.
Three people helped the woman up and police issued a description of the alleged attacker as being a Caucasian in his 30s, "walking a golden labrador, which was in a dog harness".
Mr Roberts said today it had been established the woman had collided with a blind man following his dog who didn't realise what had happened.
"It was an unfortunate accident and there was no evidence of malice on anyone's behalf," he said.
