A first division winning Lotto ticket bought in Milford was almost thrown out in the rubbish.
Instead, the woman, who wishes to remain anonymous, got the ticket checked and found she’d won $386,848.
"I was doing a bit of a spring clean when I noticed the ticket in a pile of rubbish on the front seat.
"When I checked it at the store, they said I’d won, and of course I thought it was just going to be a few thousand.
"But it really was my lucky day."
She was so shaken she couldn’t fill the winners’ form out properly.
"I didn’t write my name in full, and gave the wrong bank details, and I’ve been off my food since then too – but it’s so great.
"I’m going to buy a small place so I won’t have to pay huge rent any more, and will treat myself to all the things people do who have money."
The ticket was bought at Lakeview Superette in Milford for the draw about two weeks ago.
