There is some jiggery pokery going on in Hawke's Bay this summer season.
These two curious road signs mysteriously appeared on a local signpost on Maraekakaho Road, near Hastings, last weekend.
Stuff.co.nz reader Katherine Halliday of Havelock North noticed the trickery as she drove past the signage yesterday morning.
"I have since googled 'jiggery pokery' and, appropriately, it means something along the lines of a dodgy trick! Good for a chuckle."
She said she was pleased to see someone showing a good sense of humour.
Peter Bryant, of MWH consultants who maintain road signage around the area, wasn't as impressed by the gag.
He said road signs served an important purpose.
Vandalism of signs in the area was very common, and happened nearly every week, he said.
The dictionary defines jiggery pokery as being a term of British origin meaning trickery, hocus-pocus, fraud or humbug.
