West Auckland residents want to know who is leaving large, bloodied animal bones in the street.

A number of bloodied animal bones have been spotted on west Auckland roads.

Glen Eden and Titirangi locals have posted on social media reporting sightings of the bones dotted around roundabouts in their area.

They are said to be the size of a human femur and dotted with blood, gristle and fur.

One resident said the bones looked like lambs' or dogs' legs.

Another wondered if a large troll had been wandering through their village, while others hoped nothing more sinister was afoot.

The bones were first spotted over the weekend.

Police are asking any members of the public who have concerns about the bones to contact them in the first instance.

Last year thousands of possum tails were strewn about west and northwest Auckland, but the culprit was never found.

Both Auckland Council and Auckland Transport couldn't shed any light on the new mystery of the animal bones.
