Road signs to nowhere on the corner of Horotiu Bridge and River roads in Horotiu.

One could argue that Horotiu's in the middle of nowhere, but this is ridiculous.

The road signs at a major intersection in the rural Waikato town overnight went blank.

But it's only temporary, says Waikato District Council.

Horotiu residents were perplexed at the blank signs on the intersection of River and Horotiu Bridge roads.

The council's acting general manager of service delivery, Chris Clarke, blamed the weather.

"Council was made aware of it this morning. The sign has swung around 180 degrees. This was caused by the wind," Clarke said on Thursday afternoon.

"The sign will be moved back round to the correct position and the connections tightened.

"This will be done within the next hour, the team has been busy all day in the north of the district repairing other wind-damaged signs."

The signs, when flipped around the right way, inform road users of distances to Ngaruawahia and Gordonton (currently on the right but should be on the left) and Horsham Downs, Hamilton and Flagstaff (currently on the left but should be on the right).
