DEDICATED: A mystery plaque has been nailed to a park bench.

A High St bench outside a popular Christchurch cafe has been dedicated to Earthquake Recovery Minister Gerry Brownlee.

Although it's probably not the sort of dedication he is looking for.

"This park bench is dedicated to the memory of Gerry Brownlee who hates Christchurch and everyone in it," the plaque declares.

CONTROVERSIAL: A second plaque has been dedicated to Tony Marryatt.

The sign has been screwed to a wooden bench outside a cafe.

A spokesman for Brownlee said the minister did not wish to comment on the plaque. It was not known who was behind the signs or when they were erected.

A photos was posted on the C1 Espresso's Facebook page yesterday and attracted close to 800 likes within the first 12 hours.

It also attracted many comments with adjectives ranging from "awesome" to "excellent", while other Facebook users said they ''love it'' and were ''laughing out loud''.

A small number of commenters said the plaque was a little harsh.

A C1 Espresso staff member said a customer noticed it when a fire alarm forced everyone outside at midday yesterday.

"They are really well done. Some cheeky bugger has put a bit of effort into it."
