A Massey University student’s breathtaking image of the New Zealand night sky is gaining him plenty of praise on social media.

Amateur photographer Hariprasad Venugopal created this picture of the Milky Way as seen from Himatangi Beach in the Manawatu on August 11.

He says the Milky Way photo was shot at 2000 ISO and 34s exposure. The foreground photo shot using a 230-second exposure at aperture f/3.5 with a focal length of 10 mm.

The two photos were then combined. On the Milky Way Scientists Facebook page, the image had more than 4000 likes and has been shared over 1250 times.
