How do sharks know humans are not their natural prey? What should I do if I see a shark in the water? Do sharks sleep?

Following last week's tragic shark attack at Muriwai, we thought you might have a few questions about sharks, their behaviour and their prevalence in New Zealand waters.

New Zealand's foremost shark scientist, Malcolm Francis, joins us at the Stuff offices for a live chat to blast those shark misconceptions out of the water and to share some home truths about these awesome creatures.

Francis is a principal scientist at the National Institute of Water and Atmospheric Research (Niwa).

Ask your question through the live chat box.
