Car heads north in southbound lane
Emergency services are at the scene of a two-car crash on Dunedin's southern motorway.
Senior Sergeant Brian Benn, of Dunedin, said the crash occurred in the southbound lane just before 6pm.
A car appeared to have gone onto the motorway in the wrong lane near Green Island, he said.
''It appears a car heading north entered the southbound lane causing a head-on collision,'' Benn said.
Three people were trapped in one vehicle, and there was another person in the other, he said. They had to be cut from their vehicles.
All four people were taken to Dunedin Hospital in serious condition.
The crash was very near the spot of a double fatality crash last month.
A diversion was in place through Green Island.
