Joyride in $90,000 loader
The ride is over for a man who took a $90,000 loader for a drive around Cromwell.
Sergeant Simon Paget, of Cromwell, said the 22-year-old man, of no fixed abode, was responsible for a spate of offending in Cromwell over the past week.
He was caught yesterday in a stolen car after a tip from a member of the public and now faces a raft of burglary and theft charges.
Several offences were committed on Tuesday night, Paget said. "Two bikes and a vehicle were taken, including a $90,000 loader taken from a commercial property."
The property had sustained substantial damage as the loader was driven through the fence, Paget said.
Two stolen motor vehicles had also sustained damage and had been returned to the owners.
"We found (the property) at a number of locations.
He moved from one location to another using various modes of transport. I don't know what was behind his offending but it's almost like joyriding."
Police were "extremely happy" to have the man in custody and thanked the member of the public who helped apprehend him, he said.
Police encouraged anyone who might have been a victim of a burglary in the past week to contact them.
In another incident, a 46-year-old woman has been arrested and charged with sexual connection with a young person aged 12-16.
Police would not comment further on the case.
