A clerical error has put the froth on awards for Invercargill Brewery's entries at the Commonwealth Craft Beer Cup held in Kentucky, the United States, last month.
Initially, head brewer Steve Nally was happy the brewery had won bronze medals for Smokin' Bishop and Pitch Black Imperial stout.
However, this week he learned his Boysenbeery Belgium-style wheat beer had won a silver medal. A clerical error attributed the medal to Boston Beer.
Finding out about the win had given him goosebumps, Nally said.
"When I saw the results I thought their boysenberry beer wasn't as good as mine, and I was right."
About 1000 beers were entered in the competition and 87 awarded medals.
"To send away three beers and win three medals in such a high standard competition, in craft beer country, says we are good," Nally said.
