New Plymouth council manager Simon Pickford moves south in October to take up a role with the Dunedin City Council.

Pickford will be the council's new general manager of services and development, filling the position previously held by Dr Sue Bidrose, who was appointed chief executive officer last year.

Pickford is currently the manager of executive services at New Plymouth District Council, with responsibility for corporate planning and policy, long-term planning, communications, legal services, iwi relations and democratic services.

Bidrose said Pickford would bring an excellent mix of skills and experience in private and public sectors to his new role.

Originally from Britain, Pickford moved to New Zealand in 1998.

Should the fireworks show become an annual event?

I don't see why not. It's a fun, safe way to enjoy a good show.

At $30 it's just another money-making exercise for someone.
