A decision on the hill and high-country development plan change has again been deferred by Environment Southland.

At a council meeting this week, councillors voted to delay the decision once more.

Last week, two public meetings were held in Gore and Mossburn and attracted more than 200 farmers who were concerned about how the rules would affect them.

The council, under the rules, is proposing hill- and high-country development become a permitted activity and comply with set conditions. If the conditions cannot be met, then a resource consent will be required.

It was decided any decision would be most likely be deferred until October. The plan change is part of a wider package of changes being worked on through the Water and Land 2020 and Beyond project.
