An Invercargill hotel has lived up to its clean and green image by becoming the 100th business in New Zealand to achieve the Qualmark Enviro-Gold Award.

The Ascot Park Hotel received the award this week which highlights outstanding performance in environmental management such as energy efficiency, waste management and conservation activities.

Hotel manager Peter Ridsdale said he had been working towards attaining the award for two years and was proud to have been the 100th business to achieve it.

The Qualmark awards, which also include Enviro-Silver and Enviro-Bronze, were introduced in 2008 by the Ministry of Tourism to assess the environmental performance of businesses.
